In response to an application from those in charge of tje National Archives of the Sahwari Arab Democartic Republic to Archivists without Bordres, a prospecting study was made of the document collections in order to detect and accord priority to the needs of the Saharauis regarding organisation of their National Archives, at present kept at their encampments in Tindouf (Algeria). The study revealed a need to provide basic archival training to the personnel in charge of the archives in order to equip them with a working methodology based on international archiving standards, thereby allowing them to the manage their document collections. Within this framework, several cooperators travelled in 2006 to the Saharaui encampments in Tindouf (Algeria), returning in 2007 in order to begin the archivism training. There are likewise plans for archivists from the Saharaui National Archives to travel in 2009 to various archives facilities in Spain in order to find out the oraganisation and running of such centres. The objectives of this project include most notably setting up the building and infrastructures of the Archives in order to improve conditions for keeping and conserving the documentation, while also examining ways of being able to pay the workers at the archives.
An all-terrain vehicle was puchased in May 2008 in order to facilitate archiving work at the camps, making it easier to transfer documentation between the wilayas and the Saharaui National Archives and to undertake journeys between the various Saharaui refugee camps.
